Citadel Broadcasting Syracuse’s General Sales Manager and the Marketing Director attended the
Syracuse University Community Internship Fair to recruit students for the internship program. Resumes
were collected and job descriptions were available for students.
(b.) Initiative: Communications Career Day

Citadel Broadcasting Syracuse’s General Manager spoke at the Communications Career Day event at the
Syracuse University by sitting on the Television/Radio/Film panel to tell freshman/transfer students. He
spoke about how his job, skills, and how he made it to be where he is today in his career.
(c.) Initiative: Syracuse University Newhouse School of Communications Internship Fair

(d.) Initiative: WJPZ Alumni Associate Fall Conference VII

Citadel Broadcasting Syracuse’s General Manager was a keynote speaker at the
Marketing/Communications Conference for students interested in a broadcasting career. This conference
broke down the essentials of branding and marketing to work with students. The conference drew over 30
current WJPZ students to Newhouse III at Syracuse University along with 7 Alumni speakers from the
East Coast.

Citadel Broadcasting Syracuse’s General Manager served as a member on the Electronic Media
Communications Dept. Advisory Committee. This committee is comprised of professional individuals
who are in a position to offer advice, guidance, and support to the Electronic Media Communications
Dept., particularly in the areas of curriculum development and facility planning. A primary goal was to
ensure that OCC’s EMC Dept. is providing students with the knowledge and skills that employers in this
field expect from recent two-year college graduates.
(g.) Initiative: Internship Program
Citadel Syracuse’s Promotions department is in charge of recruiting for an extensive internship program.
Citadel Syracuse recruits interns on an on-going basis. Interns must receive academic credit for internships.
The internship program is designed to assist students to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment.
Interns are recruited by contacting the following Universities/Colleges: Syracuse University, Onondaga
Community College, SUNY Morrisville State, LeMoyne College, Bryant & Stratton, St. Bonaventure,
SUNY Oswego State, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Albany, SUNY Buffalo,
In the past year Citadel Syracuse hosted a total of 15 interns in the following departments:
Sales (1 intern)
Intern 1: Winter 2009 (1/14/09-current) – from SUNY Oswego, reports to Citadel Broadcasting
Syracuse’s Manager of Local Sales handling various office maintenance: copying, filing,
computer work for Account Executive’s, i.e. presentations. Also handles database assignments
using Excel.
Promotions (9 interns)
Interns in the Promotions Department at Citadel Broadcasting Syracuse assist and report to the
Marketing Director and the Promotions Coordinator. They help with office duties like planning and
preparing for events, creating station related materials and help at on-site events.

Broadcasting Syracuse’s Production Coordinator. Duties included: dubbing and production
commercials and public service announcements, filing of production orders and coordinating and
producing weekly public affairs program.
Intern 2: Spring 2008 (05/13/08-08/15/08) – from SUNY Buffalo, reported to Citadel
Broadcasting Syracuse’s Production Coordinator. Duties included: dubbing and production
commercials and public service announcements, filing of production orders and coordinating and
producing weekly public affairs program.
Intern 3: Fall 2008 (09/03/08-11/07/08) – from Onondaga Community College, reported to Citadel
Broadcasting Syracuse’s Production Coordinator. Duties included: dubbing and production

Programming (1 intern)
Intern 1: Summer/Fall/Winter 2008/2009 (08/01/08-present) – from Syracuse University, reported
to Citadel Broadcasting Syracuse’s ESPN Radio Programming Coordinator. Duties included:
producing daily 3 – 6pm sports talk show for WNSS/AM.
(h.) Initiative: Participation in events or programs sponsored by educational institutions relating to career
opportunities in broadcasting; Educational Tours/Lectures with Local Schools and Groups.
Citadel Broadcasting - Syracuse regularly provides tours of the studios, including the sales areas
and production rooms, to local schools and other groups. Participants are given the opportunity to
see the production capabilities of the stations and record their voices, as well as receive exposure
to various aspects of broadcast employment and careers in the radio industry. One of the morning
show hosts provided tours on the following dates for the following groups:
02/21/2008 - Girl Scout Council (Cicero, NY) – Spoke to 15 Girl Scouts and their leader.
03/28/2008 - Girl Scout Council (Mexico, NY) – Spoke to 20 Girl Scouts and their leader.
04/14/2008 - Boy Scout Council (Troop #141) – Spoke to 12 Boy Scouts and their leader.
05/06/2008 - Driver Middle School (Marcellus, NY) – Spoke to 300 Middle School students
including their principal.
05/09/2008 - Arc of Onondaga (Syracuse, NY) – Spoke to 15 prospects including their
advisor.
08/18/2008 - Girl Scout Council (Syracuse, NY) – Spoke to 10 Girl Scouts and their leader.
11/05/2008 - Fabius High School (Fabius, NY) – Spoke to 25 Communications Class students
and their teacher.
11/11/2008 - Boy Scout Council (Syracuse, NY) – Spoke to 5 Boy Scouts and their leader.
