With young kids, you don’t need to go into too much detail if they ask about the Orlando shooting, just make sure they know they’re safe.  And with older kids, it’s okay to have a real discussion.  Just try not to let them get too wrapped up in the media coverage, and stay as levelheaded as you can when you talk about it.
